Recommended Tackle

There's a lot of leeway for personal preference when it comes to the right gear but as a general rule the following should be suitable for fishing the beat:

• A single handed fly rod rated for #5 or #6

• A full float fly line, double taper is often the choice of the dry fly angler seeking perfect presentation but use whatever you're most proficient with

• A suitable landing net with knotless mesh, please ensure it has a long enough handle to reach through the fringe

• Forceps for unhooking

• Priest for humane dispatch

• Tapered or furled leaders to aid presentation

• Tippet, usually not below 4lb however lighter may be necessary to chase wild trout on the dry fly

• Tippet degreaser 

There is a myriad of hundreds of potentially suitable flies for the beat, matching the hatch is key so please subscribe for our latest updates on what's working at the moment.
